Point5 Behaviour: Script it or skip it (supporting refusal in the classroom)

Point5 Behaviour: Script it or skip it (supporting refusal in the classroom)

(0)
The theory behind this work: We have all worked with children who get ‘stuck’; who struggle to move beyond a tricky question; who cannot settle without support; who give up at the sight of something that is difficult; who just point-blank refuse; who do not even try because they believe they will not succeed. The ‘script it or skip it’ strategy can be used to support them. As with any strategy, it cannot be done to the child, it needs to be done with the child remembering to “Reach them to teach them.” See our other resources in TES shop Point5 Behaviour Follow us on Instagram and Facebook - Point5 ltd

Point5 Behaviour: Resilience and GRIT (overcoming challenges)

(0)
Point5 Behaviour: Resilience and GRIT Information and Advice sheets The theory behind this work: Resilience and GRIT are skills. They can be taught. Teachers need practical ways to teach our children this vital skill. We have found a great way to introduce this skill and this can be used as a whole class focus. We will use the word GRIT rather than Resilience. See our other resources in TES shop Point5 Behaviour Follow us on Instagram and Facebook - point5 ltd

Point5 Behaviour: Following and Leading Activities. Working with children who seek to control

(0)
Some children find it hard to trust others; to relax in a relationship and to allow someone else to lead or be in control. Some children require explicit teaching, modelling and experience of both leading and following. These activities are a great way to help build trust, help a child experience being in control and give up control all within a fun way. This helps to foster positive relationships with adults and their peers. This resource includes the theory behind this work. Instructions for implementing activities and supporting children. A number of specific activity ideas. See our other resources in TES shop Point5 Behaviour Follow us on Instagram and Facebook - point5 ltd

Point5 Behaviour: The sticky label method (promoting positive behaviour)

(0)
The sticky label method (promoting positive behaviour) This method aims to notice and immediately acknowledge a targeted positive behaviour; it works best with younger children who like to proudly display stickers on their jumpers. The aim is to notice the child for all the times when they are achieving their target. This method is about tipping the balance so the child learns to gain attention through other more positive behaviours. We call this the sticky label method. We have used this method countless times and feedback from staff (and children) we have shared the idea with, in numerous settings, has always been hugely positive. Point5 Behaviour: Body Map Work - growing positives, reducing negatives
Point5ltdPoint5ltd

Point5 Behaviour: Body Map Work - growing positives, reducing negatives

(0)
The aim of this piece of work is to help the child understand that we all have parts (attributes) that we would like to grow and parts (behaviours) we would like to reduce. Instilling a belief in the child that they have the power to grow or reduce these parts. This work must be done with an adult who knows the child, who the child would feel comfortable talking with or being with. This is a long-term piece of work and can be added to as you go. When the child is working in class you can reflect back to them if you see a ‘part’ that you haven’t seen before or if they are using their ‘kind’ part. Encourage other adults in the school to notice these ‘parts’ too – especially the positive ones! This is a really child friendly and engaging project to work upon with a child. We have seen huge success with Body Map Work ourselves. See our other resources in TES shop Point5 Behaviour Follow us on Instagram and Facebook - point5 ltd
